The Drifter - Young Buck by Kelly Leichert

The Drifter - Young Buck

Set adrift
by the elders
welded to solitude
youthful brooding
lifted by loss
certainty foresaken
on a flow
of ice sliced
from the shore
before the time
of maturity
security melting
with the sun
young buck
son of a stag
dragging horns
not for battle
playing the puer
aware of the fears
inherited foolishness
now instinctual
He knows not
where he goes
water high
shoreline low
with nothing
trusting in mercy

merit mistaken as purpose

still we look

noting the distance
advancing by only
floating sliently
