Foundation by Kelly Leichert

It was planned

as a home

now the dandy

lions roam

the urban savannah

a similar burning

desire to survive

then the turning

to drought

the water hole dry

a primal shout

and a goodbye

to wondering

through the wild

trying to settle

moderate and mild

a foundation

concrete time

a form holding

sand and lime

to build above

a surveyed grade

subterranean memories

once afraid

abasement unknown

like in the grave

a remnant of

our days in caves
