For all the knowledge and art we profess our shadow often hides the fullness of truth. We can think ourselves above the primative emotions but we (me anyway) are not. Hopefully, the learning and creating make us aware of the shadow parts of our selves and life itself. One wants, especially on this type of site, to profess wisdom but this too is part of it. To be overly confessional can be another form of the shadow as well.
This book by Robert Bly addresses these realities in common language and as traditional teaching we are losing. It is important to understand is it is an eternal part of the human condition. We rail against many things but to me this is what is behind the story in politics as well as our personal relationships. Ultimately, it is within us all and is really what we have in common.
